Brush fire breaks out in Charlotte County


CHARLOTTE COUNTY – A brush fire consumes 12 acres Thursday in southern Charlotte County.

Charlotte County says the fire started after 1 P.M. in an area between Pasadena drive and St. Yves Drive at Tropical Gulf Acres.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s helicopter dropped gallons of water in the trouble spots.

The Englewood Fire Department and Punta Gorda Fire Department assisted with the blaze.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames and nearby residents were evacuated.

Charlotte County communications manager Brian Gleason says homeowners need to take extra caution since its dry season.

“We’re just asking people to be really careful out there.  There is a fire ban in effect there’s no fireworks allowed, and we just ask people to just really be careful so that we don’t have to be doing this.”

Gleason says while they were fighting this fire, someone through a cigarette near mile marker 154 on I–75 starting another small brush fire.

Firefighters were sent to put out that blaze.

No one was injured and the investigation continues.
