SARASOTA- Four persons injured, including a male child.

One bayflited and two ground transported after a violent multi-vehicle collision.

The crash happened around 2:45 Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Macintosh Road and Sarasota Square Blvd.

Emergency crews on scene declared the crash a “mass casualty incident.”

Sarasota Fire Department Assistant Chief, Mike Hartley described it as, “A heavy impact accident involving several vehicles on the roadway. We had fourteen apparatus respond with twenty–five personnel to an extended extrication that involved traumatic injuries to several patients.”

Two vehicles were heavily damaged: one a plumbing van, the other, a pickup truck facing oncoming traffic.

Victims were entrapped in their vehicles, where Sarasota Fire Department had to free them.

Hartley said, “It was an extensive operation that required all of our resources as far as motor vehicle crashes with our jaws of life. Our Hurst tools, our Sawzalls, our crimping. Everything we have that we’ve purchased on our apparatus was used on–hand was utilized on this heavy involved car wreck.”
