Former Booker H.S. football player killed in Louisville

SARASOTA – Former Booker High School standout and former University of Louisville linebacker Abe Brown was among four people shot to death in Louisville over a six-hour period.

Cardinals head football coach Bobby Petrino confirmed Brown’s death during an afternoon news conference. Officers found Brown dead inside a vehicle on Wilmoth Avenue around 10:30 P.M. Thursday, April 13th.

Brown leaves behind three kids, his parents and two sisters.

His family roots run deep on the Suncoast. Booker head football coach Dumaka Atkins is Brown’s cousin. The coach says Brown touched a multitude of people, and it hurts that his life ended like this.

“Everyone’s crushed. He’s one of those guys who you expect to live forever. He’s a good guy. He made himself available throughout his entire life because he came form nothing and he wanted to continue to give to people who have nothing, and that’s all of us.”

Atkins says Brown has other relatives who play for Booker and coach, and it’s going to be his mission to carry Brown’s legacy at Booker for years to come by helping his student athletes succeed.
