From roller girls to drag queens, comedy to music, it’s time to plan your weekend.
Twenty different improv troupes from around the country – and a few from around the globe – are bringing their funny business to Florida Studio Theatre this weekend for the 7th annual Sarasota Improv Festival. Got to see one of the shows and you may find yourself part of the action, suggesting topics that will seamlessly be integrated into skits and jokes, or, in one groups case, into a full blown musical engineered on the spot. There will also be workshop and other events at the fest, all of which promise to be surprising and hilarious.
Beneva Fruitville’s Drag Queen Bingo Bonanza heads to McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre for a special late-night show on Saturday, which may make the hilarious antics just a little naughtier. Join Beneva, Lindsay Carlton, and Tamiami Trails for all the Drag Queen Bingo fun you know and love, with live performances, prizes, and quite a few surprises. There may even be some bingo involved.
If you like roller derby, you’ll have plenty of options on Saturday night. The Bradentucky Bombers take to the track in an epic rematch against the South Florida Roller Girls. There will be free beer provided by The Little Giant Brewery before, during half-time, and after the bout, as well as a post-bout party at Motorworks Brewing. Meanwhile, Sarasota’s own Rolling Renegades will battle The Gainesville Roller Rebels at Stardust Skate Center. Bring a chair if you want to sit trackside.
If that’s not enough, you’ll find plenty more to do in the Sarasota Herald Tribune’s Ticket, or online at ticketsarasota.com.
