Four law enforcement agencies on the Suncoast received the National Association of School Resource Officers “Model Agency Award.” Sarasota, Venice, North Port Police Departments and the Sarasota County sheriffs office were nominated by Sarasota County schools for excellence and innovation. Sarasota County School highlighted a collaborative training program the agencies held at Riverview High. The program included a mock school shooting and disposal of a bomb. Sarasota Police Department’s captain, Kevin Stiff, says the school resource officer program is important. These agencies will be honored at a Sarasota school board meeting on July 21.
